The Naples Players will open its 73rd season with one of the most powerful and beloved musicals ever written: Les Misérables. Running June 24 through July 26 in the Kizzie Theater, the production marks the highly anticipated return of the sweeping musical to TNP’s stage for the first time since the summer of 2013, when it was performed in what was then Blackburn Hall.

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel and featuring the iconic music of Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, Les Misérables tells a profound story of redemption, justice, sacrifice, and the enduring power of hope. Set in 19th-century France, the musical follows the journey of Jean Valjean, a man seeking redemption after years of imprisonment, while the relentless Inspector Javert pursues him. Along the way, their lives intersect with a cast of unforgettable characters whose struggles and triumphs reveal the strength and compassion that exist even in difficult times.

While the scale of Les Misérables is legendary, its emotional core remains deeply human. The musical explores themes of compassion, resilience, and the ways people support one another during moments of hardship. These ideas resonate strongly with the spirit of The Naples Players and its mission to build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre.

Les Misérables is one of those rare works that continues to speak to every generation,” said Bryce Alexander, Executive Artistic Director of The Naples Players. “At its heart, it is about humanity and recognizing the dignity in one another.”

The production will be directed and choreographed by Dawn Lebrecht Fornara, with musical direction by her husband and longtime collaborator, Charlie Fornara. The duo has become a cornerstone of TNP’s musical theatre productions, having worked together on many of the organization’s most dynamic and memorable musicals over the years. Their creative partnership combines bold theatrical vision with a deep understanding of music and storytelling.

“Dawn and Charlie have an incredible ability to bring large-scale musicals to life while keeping the focus on the human stories that make them so powerful,” Alexander added.

As the first production of Season 73, Les Misérables also reflects the season’s theme of celebrating stories that unite us. With its unforgettable score, including beloved songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” and “Do You Hear the People Sing?”, the musical reminds audiences of the enduring power of hope and community.

Performances run Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The Naples Players remains committed to making theatre accessible to everyone in the community. The Kizzie Theater’s sensory viewing booth is available for all regularly scheduled performances, and a relaxed performance will take place on July 14 at 7:30 p.m.

As part of this commitment to accessibility, The Naples Players also offers ticket discounts for military members, veterans, educators, students, and first responders, helping ensure more people can experience the transformative power of live theatre.

With its sweeping music, powerful storytelling, and universal themes, Les Misérables promises to be an unforgettable opening to Season 73 at The Naples Players. It is a season dedicated to celebrating the stories that bring people together and remind us of our shared humanity.
