As mayor, I often reflect on the ways a vibrant restaurant scene shapes the character and spirit of our community. Dining out is about much more than simply enjoying a good meal. It is about connection, exploration, and the memories we create around the table.

When I was growing up, my mother and I shared a special tradition. Every Friday night, without fail, we would go out to dinner, and my favorite spot was the Colonnade Restaurant in Tampa. The Colonnade had a timeless charm. The dining room always felt warm and welcoming, filled with families, friends, and neighbors sharing laughter over dinner. I remember the joy of watching people greet one another and the sense of belonging that came with those evenings. The food was delicious, of course, but it was the atmosphere and the people that made it unforgettable.

Those memories have stayed with me and shaped the way I see dining today. Whether you prefer an elegant evening in an upscale restaurant or a casual lunch in a small neighborhood café, there is something to discover in every experience. Each local restaurant tells a story. Behind every dish is a chef’s creativity and a team’s hard work. Behind every dining room is someone’s dream brought to life.

I encourage everyone to be adventurous. Try something new, explore a place you have never visited, or taste a dish you have never heard of. Supporting our mom-and-pop cafés is as important as visiting our fine dining establishments. When we spend our evenings in these places, we help sustain the businesses that give our city its unique flavor and energy.

Dining out has the power to bring us together. It creates opportunities to slow down, share stories, and celebrate the simple joys that make life rich. Whether you are gathering with family, meeting an old friend, or sitting quietly by yourself, I hope you will find moments of connection and delight in our many wonderful restaurants here in Naples, Florida.

Many Blessings,

Teresa Heitmann

City of Naples Mayor
