My fascination with people’s histories and their stories about their lives and experiences began when I was a child. And of course, the older the people were, the more they could tell me. During my teenage years, I went grocery shopping or assisted elderly people in other ways. In my adult life, I volunteered at the Seniors Club at Malteser Hilfsdienst- (similar to the American Red Cross). These experiences taught me a lot about the needs of aging people, as well as about their wishes for the future.

Unfortunately, my parents were sick early in my life. My father got cancer in his late 50s, and mother had issues with her heart. It was a challenging time for my brother and me, working full-time and trying to balance everything between hospitals, keeping up with the housework, and getting used to all the paperwork needed to get assistance from insurance companies, retirement offices, and the bureaucracy associated with them.

During my father’s early 60s, he became increasingly dependent on daily assistance. And my mother could not take care of him herself. Heartbroken, we decided to move my father to assisted living, first into daily care, and then we found a  permanent place in our neighborhood where he was able to stay. This was amazing because we and all his friends were close. My mother also transitioned into independent living in the same facility. It was a lot of work, clearing out their condominium, deciding what they could and couldn’t bring, selling and donating furniture, and getting rid of all the things my parents once called home.

Why Do I Tell This Story?

Because I understand the thoughts and feelings of adult children, especially if they cannot be close and offer the support my brother and I could at the time.

I love helping and supporting seniors, guiding them to make another significant step in their lives.

Together with my husband Juergen Haeringer, Real Estate Broker Associate and Certified Probate Real Estate Specialists, we are here to support, assist and connect. We have more than 24 years experience in real estate. As local, full-time residents, we reach an international audience with our real estate marketing.
