Finding Wellness in Everyday Moments

As we step into cooler winter weather, I have been reflecting on the importance of health and wellness, not just in the traditional sense, but in the small and meaningful choices we make each day. Wellness does not always require a strict routine or a gym membership. Sometimes it is about slowing down enough to appreciate what is right in front of us.
For me, prayer and gratitude are at the heart of staying grounded. Beginning or ending the day with a quiet moment helps me keep perspective, stay centered, and remember what truly matters. Fresh air is another essential part of my routine. Whether I am walking through our beautiful neighborhoods, participating in a parade, or taking my dogs out for a stroll, these moments help me stay active and clear my mind. I admittedly do not have a formal workout schedule, but I get my steps in by spending time in the community, connecting with neighbors, and appreciating the simple blessing of being active. Whether I am tending to the birds in our aviary, pruning the garden, or playing ball with the dogs outside, these everyday moments keep me moving and bring me a great deal of joy.
Spending time with friends and family is also a meaningful part of my own wellness. A good conversation, a shared meal, or a visit with loved ones restores the spirit in ways nothing else can. And like so many of you, I treasure time at the beach. The sound of the waves, the salt air, and the natural beauty of our coastline remind us how fortunate we are to call Naples home.
Traveling to see family and our yearly family vacations are also ways I reconnect and recharge. These moments together remind me that wellness is not just about physical health. It is emotional, spiritual, and relational. It is about staying connected to the people who shape our lives.
As your mayor, I am grateful every day for the chance to walk alongside this community, literally and figuratively. Naples offers so many opportunities to prioritize health and happiness. Whether it is a morning walk, a moment of gratitude, or a visit with someone you love, I hope you will take time to care for yourself in ways that feel meaningful to you.
Here is to a healthy and uplifting year for all of us.
Many blessings,
Mayor Teresa Lee Heitmann
