TheatreZone, Southwest Florida’s premier musical theater company, is bringing romance and the supernatural to stage this summer with its production of Ghost: The Musical, running June 5 through June 15 at the G&L Theatre centrally located in North Naples. Based on the 1990 Oscar-winning film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, this tender and paranormal musical is a story about love and loss.

The musical is set in New York City featuring a powerful original score by Grammy winner Dave Stewart (Eurythmics). It tells the story of a young couple, Molly, a sculptor and pottery maker, and Sam who’s in finance on Wall Street. When Sam is tragically murdered, he becomes trapped as a ghost between this world and the next. With the help of Oda Mae Brown, a phony storefront psychic who never expected to communicate with the beyond, Sam fights to expose his murderer and save the woman he loves.

“The film Ghost was a success because of its brilliant script that is both funny and touching. Audiences will experience the romance, drama and heart of the original film in a new way live on stage with an exceptional cast and live orchestra,” said Mark Danni, TheatreZone’s founding artistic director.

The musical score features rock-pop songs and ballads, with songs such as “With You,” a heartbreaking solo performed by Molly as she grapples with her loss, and “Suspend My Disbelief/I Had a Life,” a high-energy ensemble piece. Audiences will also be treated to the 1965 hit “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers, which became a hit again after its use in the film.

Meet the Cast

Anthony Nuccio will lead the cast in Ghost: The Musical playing Sam Wheat, the charismatic and determined protagonist who is trying to understand his ghostly existence and spare Molly from meeting a similar one.

Kara Konken will play Molly Jensen, a gifted artist who struggles with grief and the eerie feeling that Sam is still with her in spirit.

Jasmine Vizena has been cast as Oda Mae Brown, the eccentric and comedic psychic who brings both levity and heart as she unexpectedly discovers her true abilities.

Matthew Henningsen plays Carl Bruner, Sam’s seemingly trustworthy best friend who harbors secrets that drive the story’s suspense and betrayal.

Ghost: The Musical will be directed by Mark Danni with choreography by TheatreZone’s Associate Artistic Director Karen Molnar Danni, and musical direction by Charles Fornara.
