If you’re considering putting your home on the market, you may feel that it needs to be updated in order to compete with other homes for sale in Naples. When you go to renovate your residence, though, be careful not to cover up or remove the good bones and charm of your home. Consider these three features that you should always keep during your home renovation.
Exposed Beams in Their Natural State
Exposed beams are an architectural highlight in a home, and if your space has a footprint that’s on the smaller side, exposed beams can help it to appear larger by creating a sense of added height and volume.
Beams left in their natural state can create an appealing contrast against ceilings and walls and even warm up your interiors. However, painting over your beams so that they blend with your ceiling and walls, minimizes their dramatic effect. So, if a room in your residence has exposed beams, do consider keeping them in their natural state during your renovation. Or, if you do choose to paint them, pick a color that complements your interiors but still maintains an element of contrast.
Original Millwork
If you’re renovating an older home and you want to maintain its charm and vibe, be sure to keep millwork, like wainscoting and custom molding and trim. These types of woodwork are usually fabricated according to the specifications of your home, and in many cases can be unique to your property—giving it its own sense of charm. Charm and character that you never want to lose during the renovation process if you want to maintain the integrity of the home.
Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floors are a major selling point for many buyers. If yours aren’t in the best shape, resist the temptation to cover them with carpet. Consider having the floors refinished and stained. Doing so can be more cost-effective than installing new carpet and may enhance your bottom line as buyers take note of your well-maintained floors and interiors.
